Ways to relocate a baby grand piano

Pianos routinely make movers annual list of items that are most often harmed. Grand pianos are especially troublesome. Practicing the following procedures for taking apart, cushioning and filling grand pianos will avoid damage, lower claims expense, and improve customer satisfaction.

1) At least 3 individuals are required to manage a child grand piano. If the baby grand piano needs to go up or down stairs or if a full or show grand piano needs to be transferred, a minimum of 4 people are needed.

2) Constantly finish a thorough and precise stock. It may be needed or more suitable to use a visual inventory to properly describe and show pre-existing damage.

3) As various parts are dismantled, please location all hardware in an appropriately labeled parts bag and then position the parts bag in a "Components Box".

4) Remove the music rack (lyre) from its track by pulling it towards the keyboard. Wrap it in a clean furnishings pad.

5) Disconnect the cover by removing the hinge pins. Wrap the cover in a tidy furniture pad.

6) Remove the prop that holds the cover open and cover it in a clean furnishings pad. The prop has a hinge pin and remains in two pieces.

7) Get rid of the pedal assembly and cover it in a clean furnishings pad. The braces at the back of the assembly rest in slots at each end. When removing the screws, please beware not to drop the braces. In addition, please be especially cautious with the push-rods so that they will not get bent. As you deal with the piano, number the push-rods from left to right as "1", "2", and "3", by putting a piece of masking tape with the proper number on each rod. Keep in mind: If masking tape is not available, please use properly identified parts bags for this function. When reassembling at location, please be sure to put the rods in the right order so that the pedals will work effectively.

8) Pad the piano by positioning a clean rolled furnishings pad (stretch-wrap the pad to avoid it from unrolling) on the cover of the keyboard to prevent it from flopping open while you deal with the piano. Note: Please make sure that the surface of the piano is dust-free prior to padding it.

9) Position a piano board and connect the straps so that it is ready to get the piano. The raised brace on the piano board must be at the keyboard end of the piano.

10) Remove the left front leg by positioning one individual underneath the piano at the left end of the keyboard. Be sure to have my company two people lifting the corner of the piano while the third individual removes the leg. Note: Please be sure to note which legs were removed from which positions because some pianos have legs that are not interchangeable.

11) Location the piano on the piano board by lowering the "leg-less" end onto the board. Please be sure to raise the entire piano a little while finishing this maneuver to prevent excessive pressure on the remaining, connected legs as the piano tips. Be sure that the piano is centered comfortably against the brace at the end of the piano board.

12) Eliminate the two staying legs and cover them in clean furnishings pads. These legs are kept in location by a "key and slot" arrangement. To get rid of the leg, slide it inward toward the center of the piano till it comes out of the slot.

13) Secure the piano to the piano board by bringing the ends of the straps together and attaching them. Location folded burlap pads over the furniture pads but under the straps to supply additional defense to the edges of the piano. To prevent the strap near the narrow end of the piano from slipping click here off, tie the loose ends of the 2 straps together.

14) To move the piano over a flat, level surface area, tilt the piano and piano board and place a four-wheel dolly under the center of the piano board.

15) To move the piano up or down stairs, use the piano board as a skid. After adequately padding the stairs for defense against residence damage, put the keyboard end of the piano towards the bottom of the stairs. Connect a bulge strap to the leading end of the piano board to prevent the piano from slipping.

16) To pack the piano, leave it on the piano board and location it in a tier as the very first base product with the keyboard facing the wall of the preceding tier. The best place to load the padded cover is between the piano and the preceding tier or between the wall and the piano.

Grand pianos represent a considerable difficulty, they can be moved without damage by using common sense and practicing the procedures listed above.
